Minecraft: Dungeons Announced for PC

Minecraft: Dungeons, a brand new game set in the world of Minecraft, is coming to PC in 2019, Mojang announced today during Minecon Earth 2018.

Being developed internally by a "small and dedicated team" within Mojang, the developer describes Minecraft: Dungeons as an "action-adventure game inspired by classic dungeon crawlers." It'll support up to four players and feature various new weapons, items, and mobs, as well as a variety of environments to explore and an overarching quest that'll see players face off against an enemy called the Arch-Illager.

"When I think of Minecraft I think about it as a multiverse," Jens Bergensten, lead developer at Mojang told IGN. "Dungeons is essentially one Minecraft world with specific areas to go to, specific quests, and specific monsters. That said there are of course procedural elements to the game.”

Is PlayStation Taking Notes from Xbox Game Pass?

BEYOND!

With the recent announcement that PlayStation Now will allow for players to download and play PS4 and PS2 games offline from Sony's subscription streaming service, the crew of IGN's weekly PlayStation show Beyond dug into the topic.

Watch the video above to see Jonathon Dornbush, Brian Altano, and Max Scoville discuss whether PlayStation Now's new capabilities are taking a note out of Xbox's Game Pass system, and whether we could see the service be combined with PlayStation Plus in the future.

In its original announcement, Sony did note that users will need to connect their PS4’s to the internet every few days to verify their PS Now subscription to play downloaded titles, but an always-on, super-fast internet connection won’t be necessary for this verification.

Every Amiibo Figure Ever

Amiibo may not be the wild craze they were when they first released, but they are still some of the best official Nintendo figurines you can find. As of publish, 175 official Amiibo have been made or announced, though that number comes with some caveats.

Here's gallery of every single Amiibo figurine released or announced, sorted by game series. There are a whole lot in there, so be sure to use the arrow keys for quicker browsing if you are viewing on the desktop site:

Now, let's get a few things straight: We aren't counting the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards. There are A LOT of those, but 2D cards don't really feel like they qualify as full-on Amiibo. (Though we did include the cereal box Amiibo, that's 3D, right?) Additionally, there are four figurines from the Skylanders games, but they actually do double as official Amiibo. Additionally, the Mr. Game & Watch Amiibo has four interchangeable poses sold in a bundle with only one base, technically making it a single Amiibo.

Why the PS4 Spider-Man Deserves His Own Comic

Marvel Comics released Spider-Geddon #0 this week. While that comic serves as a direct lead-in to the upcoming Spider-Geddon crossover, that's by no means the only selling point. Spider-Geddon #0 is notable for serving as the comic book debut of the Peter Parker of Marvel's Spider-Man video game on PS4. And if this issue accomplished anything, it's showing how much potential this version of Spidey has for his own ongoing comic book series.

Warning: spoilers for Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 ahead!

It's easy to dismiss the need for a Spider-Man comic set in this game's version of the Marvel universe. Marvel has an overabundance of Spider-Man comics as it is, with books spotlighting the classic Peter Parker as well as offshoot characters like Spider-Gwen, Scarlet Spider and Venom. There's even an alternate universe version of Spidey in Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows. Is Insomniac's take on Spider-Man truly different enough to stand out when you cut the gameplay out of the equation and focus solely on story?

SCUF Vantage Wireless PS4 Controller Review

SCUF’s Vantage Wireless PS4 Controller is possibly the closest thing the PlayStation has to the Xbox One’s Elite Controller. It’s a well-made, comfortable controller that delivers some handy customization options you don’t get from the standard DualShock 4. It has mad e me at least feel like I’m performing a little better. But as much as it does right, it misses the mark just as often, and at $200 it’s too expensive for that, especially for more casual players.

The Vantage is roughly as comfortable to hold as a standard DualShock 4, though definitely a little larger, thanks to the sturdier, textured grip. and feels familiar aside from the very obvious change of the offset analog sticks that resemble the Xbox One’s configuration. Obviously symmetrical versus offset can be quite the personal preference — I’ve grown fond of the DualShock setup having used it so frequently over the years. But playing offset on a PS4 feels good in my hands, especially when combined with analog stick height and contour customization options that let you tune it to your liking for fast-paced genres like first-person shooters.

PSX 2018 Isn't Happening, But Maybe That's a Good Thing for PlayStation

For the last several years, PlayStation has found a way to continue the conference hype of E3, Paris Games Week, and TGS months after the fact, with PlayStation Experience serving as another home for big reveals. And while the confirmation that there will be no PSX 2018 is a bummer for PlayStation fans, myself included, Sony’s behavior over the last year is indicative of the fact that they don’t need PSX to deliver important news or celebrate big releases.

While PSX allows fans to come together and demo tons of upcoming and recently released PlayStation games, its place as a centerpiece for the entire PlayStation community is waning given Sony’s recent strategy and last year’s underwhelming show.

Concept Art Shows Bowsette Was Nearly Canon

Well what do you know: Nintendo had thought of Bowsette before the internet did, and the character was nearly in Super Mario Odyssey.

Though Bowsette is a character that took the internet by storm, it isn’t a real Nintendo creation, rather fan art that was spawned from the odd introduction of Peachette during this month’s jam packed Nintendo Direct. Or, at least we thought this idea of a  Bowser and Princess Peach combination was entirely made up by fans, until today’s release of The Art of Super Mario Odyssey in Japan.

Post Scriptum Early Access Review

In most squad-based games, communication is king. In the current early access iteration of Post Scriptum, that’s taken to new heights: the need for constant coordination with your team is not only necessary for success, but easily the most enjoyable aspect of this World War 2 military simulation. This formula of squad-based team cohesion on steroids would make for a worthwhile shooter were it not for the frustrating maps, overly simplistic game mode, and a few baffling design decisions that get in the way of experiencing what Post Scriptum does well.

Post Scriptum is an unforgiving game where some players are inherently more powerful than others, and a single whizzing bullet can unceremoniously end an otherwise uneventful five-minute trek through its WW2-era Netherlands maps. This may sound difficult for difficulty’s sake but this opaque environment is ultimately what drives people to work together: there’s safety in numbers. If you’re gunned down while alone you have absolutely no recourse, but with a section of soldiers (a group of anywhere from four to nine) at your back you can be avenged and revived. And while this incentive also exists in Battlefield 1, the sheer amount of waiting and running required to get back into the action of Post Scriptum makes sticking with your squad feel even more essential. As someone who loves team play, this element was immediately gratifying, but as time pressed on getting back to this baseline of cooperation proved arduous.

Dying Light: Bad Blood's Steam Debut Sees Fewer Than 500 Players at Its Peak

Dying Light's battle royale standalone failed to impress during its debut week on Steam.

Dying Light: Bad Blood launched as a $20/ £16 standalone on September 13, and has mixed reviews on Steam, compared to Dying Light's very positive reviews, and while it's still in Early Access, it doesn't seem to have generated much interest in the community, judging by the player count.

Red Dead Redemption 2's Black Cowboys Are Important

Red Dead Redemption, released in 2010, instantly became a classic. But while trying to evoke the best parts of an age old genre, the open world Western failed to address some of video games’ worst habits. Rockstar’s sequel, however, looks like it’s already set up to make a positive difference.

Rockstar has always pushed the limits of gaming with absurdity, bravado, and parodic social commentary. They inflate real world social issues to a point that’s comical, and then bury them with snappy dialogue and hyper violence. The first Red Dead Redemption strayed away from that standard and took a more serious perspective – and it worked. It was a gritty, gunslinging, genre-defining game that aced the feel of being a gruff, white cowboy at the end of the chaotic Wild West. The time-altering Dead Eye mechanic and powerful plot combined to create an unforgettable world of dusty desperados – a world that felt like a genuine video game realization of classic Hollywood Westerns.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales Inherits All the Best Parts of The Witcher 3

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales began life as little more than the single-player mode for Gwent, CD Projekt Red’s standalone PvP spin-off of the card game from The Witcher 3. But it's grown far past those roots, and you wouldn’t know it’s a spin-off of a spin-off while playing it. I went hands-on the first two and a half hours this week, and it feels like nothing short of a full-fledged Witcher RPG.

Watch the video at the top of the page to see Thronebreaker in action!

The major difference is that instead of having action-RPG combat where you fight monsters in real-time, you’re playing a card game. I’m sure a lot of people have stopped reading right there, but Thronebreaker’s captivating story and fantastic writing and voice-overs make it a game every Witcher fan should be excited for. Simply put, this is way more than just a card game.

Fortnite Season 6 Patch Notes Reveal 'Darkness Rises' Theme, Invisibility, and Pets

Season 5 has come to an end and Epic has revealed what's new with the Fortnite Season 6 patch notes.

"Darkness Rises" is the theme for Season 6 and follows the events of the purple cube and its subsequent dissolving into Loot Lake. The theme brings a number of map changes including a floating island where Loot Lake was originally located, a haunted castle, and new corrupted areas where the runes were placed.

Shadow Stones grant players a special shadow form for 45 seconds when consumed.  Your ability to use weapons is removed but you can go invisible when standing still. Phase is a new ability that propels you forward and lets you pass through objects. You also receive increased movement speed and you're free of any fall damage. These new items are typically found near corrupted zones.

The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep Review

If you entice me with deep, turn-based RPG combat, clever puzzles, and jaunty, Gaelic folk ballads, you can pretty easily have me eating out of the palm of your hand. The Bard’s Tale IV certainly did for the majority of the 50-ish hours I spent delving its dungeons and enjoying its quirky lore and charming voice acting. The fact that so much of it is so great made it all the more disappointing that it’s hobbled by technical problems too frequently to disregard them.

Set in a picturesque, storybook land that resembles a romanticized medieval Scotland - but with elves and goblins running around - the straightforward but rousing main quest tells a decent tale of ancient sorcerers, kingly bloodlines, and wicked gods. It can get a little hard to follow at times as it seems preoccupied with calling back to as many characters and events as possible of the first three Bard’s Tales, which came out in the ‘80s. But the small lore snippets discovered in books, notes, and NPC conversations help the setting come alive even if you have no idea who Tarjan the Mad God is.

Fortnite Is so Big It Can Bully Sony and Nintendo

Fortnite is undeniably one of the biggest games in the world, but today we saw an example of just how big it is. Sony’s long-standing (and, frankly, embarrassing) stance against cross-play with other consoles is finally coming to an end, and Fortnite is pretty much leading the charge.

Developer Epic Games has been vocal in the past about wanting Sony to embrace cross-play (alongside developers like Psyonix and Bethesda), and actually accidentally enabled the feature briefly last year. Sony even caused a big headache for Epic during Fortnite’s launch on Switch as players who had previously played on PS4 discovered their accounts couldn’t carry over – an issue Sony didn’t have much to say about at the time.

Sega released a day-one-patch, but Shenmue I & II still suffered from numerous bugs, including sound and graphics glitches, cutscenes not playing correctly, swapped button issues, training progress not being saved and much more.

Life is Strange 2 - Episode 1 Review

Life is Strange 2 features none of the characters or settings of its predecessor. Its new hero, a 17-year-old Mexican-American boy named Sean Diaz, does not have a decision-reversing time-travel ability like Max Caulfield. But the moment an acoustic guitar begins delicately strumming over the sun-kissed title screen, it is unmistakable what you are playing. This may be an unfamiliar story among fresh faces and unknown locales, but in every other way this is Life is Strange.

This four-hour episode — the first of five — introduces us to a bigger, more complex story than was told by either the original Life is Strange or its prequel Before the Storm. That coming-of-age story concerns the fraught relationship of a pair of high school girls against a backdrop of an impending natural disaster — but its action is confined to the classrooms and bedrooms of small-town Arcadia Bay, Oregon. Life is Strange 2 is in every way a more elaborate affair: its action sprawls out from Seattle to the woods of Oregon and still farther afield, giving it the feel of a road movie in game form. It aspires to realize nothing less than an unsparingly critical portrait of the United States in the era of Donald Trump.

Square Enix has finally confirmed some of the Kingdom Hearts III voice cast, primarily that a host of familiar voices from Disney movies are reprising their roles in KH3.

Square Enix had no comment when reached by IGN regarding who will be voicing other characters original to the series, including who will be voicing Riku, Kairi, Aqua, and more.

As for Disney characters, Square has confirmed the main cast for Frozen — Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad — will be returning to voice Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf, respectively. Telltale's Sudden Closure Was Reportedly the Result of a Failed Round of Financing

Following the news last Friday that Telltale Games is shutting down, fans have been wondering how and why this happened so suddenly. According to a report yesterday, the culprit is a failed round of funding that Telltale's board was counting on to keep it above water.

“The company was working diligently to close a round of financing,” Telltale co-founder Dan Connors told Variety. “Unfortunately, when the last potential financial backer abruptly pulled out, we were left in a position where we had no choice but to stop production. Sadly, everyone was so focused on doing what was required to keep the company going that when the last potential partner backed out, there were no other options.”

Total War Rome 2 Is Being Review Bombed on Steam over Imagined Controversy of Female Spawn Rates

Total War: Rome 2 has had a surge of negative reviews on Steam because players are under the impression that female generals are spawning more often.

The claim is that half of the generals are now women. According to PCGamesN, Steam user erick posted a screenshot from a negative review that made the claim that "over 50% of...generals

women."

The criticisms that have ensued revolve around the historical accuracy of the spawn rate of female generals versus the actual number of female leaders historically, although none of the players have posted any evidence of subsequent patches or updates to confirm the likelihood of female generals appearing has increased since their initial introduction six months ago.

Pokemon GO's Mystery Pokemon Revealed as New Mythical Species

Pokémon GO’s mystery Pokémon that has been appearing in the past week, and once caught turns into a Ditto, has been revealed as a brand new mythical Pokémon named Meltan.

Revealed this morning, Meltan is a Steel-Type Hex Nut Pokémon that weighs 17.6 pounds and is 0'08" tall.

A further description of Meltan was also given on the Pokémon Let's Go page.

"Most of Meltan’s body is made from liquid metal, and its shape is very fluid. It can use its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its own body. Meltan generates electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. It uses this electricity as an energy source and also as an attack that can be fired from its eye. Clearly a curious Pokémon, Meltan is very expressive and shows an interest in all kinds of things."

FIFA 19 Switch Review

While the FIFA series has done impressive things on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, the Switch version is still lagging behind. Despite notable upgrades from the very disappointing FIFA 18, including a glossy, Champions League makeover, inclusion of the enjoyable new House Rules modes, and the ability to now play online with friends, FIFA 19 on Switch is still a frustrating and unrewarding experience, especially on the pitch.

FIFA 19’s moment-to-moment gameplay remains, disappointingly, largely unchanged from last year’s under-par outing. Still running on EA’s Ignite engine (last used on the PS4/Xbox/PC version for FIFA 16), it simply can’t compete with the fluidity of movement and authentically animated players the Frostbite-powered versions display. Additionally, the tempo of play is all over the place, with some players boasting ludicrous speed that makes them almost impossible to track as a defender, to others who give the feeling they’re wading through tar as they attempt to turn with the ball.

Nintendo's Dragalia Lost Adds the Best Mobile Elements to a Deep ARPG

Considering all of Nintendo's last mobile efforts featured pre-existing properties, like Mario and Fire Emblem, I never imagined their next wireless foray would feature a brand new IP. Dragalia Lost, co-developed by mobile-games-veteran Cygames, seems to borrow some of the commonly best elements of popular mobile games and ties them into an action RPG with seemingly deep systems.

I played through some of Dragalia Lost’s early chapters, and for my first task, I turned in my free summon – which is guaranteed to grant a new character. Yes, much like Fire Emblem Heroes and Puzzle and Dragons, Dragalia Lost mainly relies on a gacha-style summoning system to bolster your character roster.

In Japan, Dragon Quest is a franchise like no other. Death Stranding: Kojima Brings Down the House at TGS 2018

If anything, the stage event was a reminder that Kojima is just as much of a phenomenon in his home country as in the West. Literally thousands of fans gathered in front of the PlayStation stage, stretching all the way to the back of the cavernous venue, and roared with delight at every new announcement and a new minute-long trailer.

This was by far and away the largest gathering of the four-day event. Appropriately, the first comment Kojima made when appearing on stage was “I can’t believe how many people came!”

The hunting, fishing and wildlife systems in Red Dead Redemption 2 are incredibly deep and realistic, if Rockstar’s own descriptions of these systems are anything to go by.

Revealed through the official Rockstar Games website, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be home to approximately 200 species of animals, including various mammals, birds, fish and more. All reportedly behave and react to the game’s environment in unique, logical ways.

For example, as in real life, deer, bison and pronghorn all travel in large herds, sockeye salmon swim upstream, possums play dead in order to be ignored by hunters (which may include the player), birds of prey soar on thermal updrafts, scavengers quickly seek out dead animals to feast upon, and more. It’s all an attempt to create a complex and realistic ecosystem where all members of the food chain must fight for their place.

Hands-On With Super Mario Party's Dual Switch Mode

One of the best parts of being a Nintendo Switch owner is how often you find yourself saying “Whoa! I didn’t know my Switch could do that!” This was certainly the most predominant exclamation in our war room after the reveal of Super Mario Party at E3 2018. Now, having seen the dual-screen mode, dubbed Toad’s Rec Room, in action, it’s safe to say our shouting was justified.

Toad’s Rec Room a set of four fun little diversions from the Mario Party we’ve all come to know and (mostly) love. This mode lets players pop off their joy-con and utilize the Switch’s hidden screen sharing ability. This isn’t screen sharing in a “traditional” sense, this function basically turns your Switch into a giant Nintendo DS, creating one larger image across both screens and spreading the touch-screen functionality seamlessly across the larger play area. Rec Room challenges include matching sets of bananas, pummeling each other while piloting tiny tanks, playing three innings of baseball, and fourth mini-game that has yet to be shown off.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season Episode 2 Review

Halfway through the second episode of The Walking Dead’s final season, I found myself frustrated. I had been playing for about an hour but still struggled to care about any character other than Clementine or AJ, any actions I took, or any dialogue choice I was presented with. It all felt hollow and lifeless, a formulaic Mad Libs-esque construction in which story elements were strung together in a repetitive, predictable sequence. If anything can be said for Episode Two, it’s this: the seams of this series are showing, and they’re beginning to wear thin.

As in previous episodes and seasons of The Walking Dead, Clementine and her relationship with AJ continues to be the strongest and most compelling part of the story. After dealing with a particularly traumatic incident at the end of the previous episode, Clementine is left to put the pieces back together and teach AJ more difficult lessons about the subtleties and nuances of life from a time when manners and niceties were socially relevant.

Devil May Cry 5 Has Multiplayer and Microtransactions

A TGS demo and PlayStation Store listing have revealed Devil May Cry 5 will have both microtransactions and some form of online multiplayer.

Fans have been able to play DMC 5 at TGS 2018 this week, which led Gamespot to notice that players can pay real world money to purchase the series' in-game currency, red orbs.

The orbs, which traditionally are never abundant enough to unlock absolutely everything, are used to purchase upgrades to weapons, new moves and one-off consumables.

When asked why these were being included, series director Hideaki Itsuno said it was all about player choice. “With giving people the ability to purchase Red Orbs, it’s something we want to give people as an option. If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that.”

Devil May Cry 5: How a Motorbike Chainsaw Sword Holds the Key to Tradition

Here’s Devil May Cry 5’s in-game description of the Cavaliere, an actual weapon Dante is able to wield.

(I haven’t made this up.)

“Cavaliere – a motorcycle fused with a demon that splits in two to be wielded as twin swords.”

When equipped, Dante dons two motorbike chassis as if they were chrome boxing gloves. While the description above may say sword, chainsaw is far more accurate. As a combo escalates, the two halves fuse together to form a rideable bike, allowing Dante to power-slide his way through demons. It’s gloriously absurd, as you’d imagine, and stupidly fun to use.

But there’s more to the Cavaliere than you might think. Behind its ostentatious design lies the essence of how Capcom is navigating its return to the series (the last instalment was produced in 2013 by British studio Ninja Theory) and particularly the character of Dante.

Catherine: Full Body Is More Than Just a Remaster

Catherine: Full Body is much more than just a remaster of 2011’s puzzle adventure with some tweaks and additional scenario pieces here and there. With the addition of a third heroine character, producer Katsura Hashino and his team at Studio Zero did not just add her part, but fleshed out the original story to make her fit in more naturally. That means that fans of the original have a lot of new content to look forward to. “The new edition has 1.5 the content of the original game,” Hashino tells me.

Protagonist Vincent is a 32-year-old systems engineer salaryman, and is facing what is best described as a midlife crisis. His girlfriend Katherine’s period is late, and she wants Vincent to be more serious about their relationship. Vincent himself is not exactly a family man, and he is not sure how to cope with his girlfriend’s news. After work, he goes drinking at Stray Sheep, his favorite bar, and the next morning he wakes up with a gorgeous blonde bombshell beside him by the name of Catherine. She becomes Vincent’s secret lover, but Catherine doesn’t know that Vincent already has a steady girlfriend. That means that he not only has to keep Catherine a secret to Katherine, but also the other way around. Eventually, Vincent (and therefore the player) has to choose which of the two is his true love.

Star Control: Origins Review

By introducing an entirely new and mysterious universe full of colorful, hilarious aliens and bringing back the intense arcadey space battles, Star Control: Origins gets about two thirds of the way toward recapturing the magic of Star Control 2, the revered 1992 adventure about forming an interstellar alliance against a greater threat. If it weren’t for the tedious chore of gathering resources from planets’ surfaces, it’d be a revival to celebrate.

As humanity takes its first step into the stars we find we’re not alone, and that many of our neighbors are delightfully stupid. There’s the pathetically needy Tywom banana slugs, the obsessively bureaucratic Measured, a sleazy race of con artists who’re basically Watto from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace with longer necks, and plenty more – each stranger and more surprising than the last. All the major aliens have a distinct style and personality that’s brought to life by diverse character models and fun voice acting.

Rocket League Surpasses 50 Million Players

More than three years after its initial release, Rocket League continues to pick up steam. Developer Psyonix revealed yesterday that Rocket League has now surpassed 50 million total players.

"Rocket League now has more than 50 MILLION players worldwide!" tweeted Psyonix. "Thank you to our ever-growing global community for helping us reach this incredible milestone."

The top fan reply to the tweet is a request for cross-platform party functionality. It's a feature Psyonix originally promised would be available this month, but last week delayed indefinitely to ensure it operates "flawlessly on all platforms before its release."

Marvel's Spider-Man Is the Fastest-Selling PlayStation Exclusive of All Time

With 3.3 million copies sold within the first three days of its release, Insomniac Games' Spider-Man for PS4 is the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation game of all time.

USA Today reported the sales milestone for Marvel's Spider-Man, indicating that, assuming all copies were sold at the standard MSRP of $59.99, USA Today worked those 3.3 million copies sold out to be about $198 million. Though of course the collector's edition of the game would factor into those sales.

Not included in either of those figures are copies that were sold as part of the $399.99 PlayStation 4 Pro bundle that comes with a copy of Spider-Man packed in.

Ghostbusters World Fixes Some of Pokemon Go’s Problems But Lacks Its Heart

A huge wave of nostalgia hits me when I think of Ghostbusters. Hearing the theme song or seeing the Ecto-1 immediately evokes memories of watching the original films and playing with Ghostbusters toys as a kid. But despite years of loving the franchise and many occasions of pretending to be a Ghostbuster on the playground, my fantasies never involved collecting teams of ghosts to battle against other Ghostbusters or walking through the city searching for spirits.

This is where Ghostbusters World, the upcoming free-to-play mobile game from publisher FourThirtyThree, finds itself in a precarious spot. Ghostbusters is absolutely a beloved franchise that’s ripe for a great game adaptation, but not one that necessarily lends itself to the gotta-catch-‘em-all mentality as easily as Pokemon.

Primarily showing protagonist Arthur Morgan and Dutch's gang, the images also show a variety of locations from the game, and a really wrinkly horse:

We Played 2 Hours of Red Dead Redemption 2 - Here’s What Happened

As I trotted across the prairieland of New Hanover on my well-groomed steed, Mahogany Boy (named due to a tragic misread of his breed, the Mahogany Bay), I heard the dull rattle of a freight train. I yanked the reins, hit X a few times to shift gears into a gallop, and streaked toward the tracks, just as the steam locomotive rounded a corner into view. I had an idea.

As I took up a trajectory with the train, I heard a shout over the growing noise - bounty hunters sent to collect me, dead not alive. It was a fair cop: I’d recently threatened a passing wagoner, stolen his cart and rode it off a cliff to see what happens (you die). As the engine streaked past and I swung the camera to get a look at my pursuers, a button prompt appeared in the bottom-right corner of the screen: “Jump on train”.

79 Amazing Little Details in Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 promises an unparalleled level of depth, from its vast, sprawling world, to the people and animals within it, and how it all fits together in a way that is quite unlike any open-world game before it. You're never quite know how each encounter with another character will pan out because each person is different. Similarly, it's filled with moments where you'll ask yourself, "I wonder if I can do that?", and chances are you probably can, no matter how outrageous it is.

Below is a list of the cool, quirky and downright awesome little touches we've noticed so far with our time in Red Dead Redemption 2. If you want to know more, check out our impressions of Red Dead 2 after playing it for two hours, or how the new dialogue systems turn the game into a comedy.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Feature a Full First-Person Mode at Launch

Rockstar has revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will follow in GTA V’s footsteps by allowing you to play the entire game from a first-person perspective.

Shown off in our hands-on with the game, first-person mode can be turned on and off at any time (on the PS4, this is done by clicking the trackpad to cycle through the camera modes until you get to first-person), and applies to the entire game, barring cutscenes. The feature will be available at launch.

It’s something of a surprise - GTA V only added a first-person mode upon its release for Xbox One and PS4, well over a year after the game was launched on last-gen consoles.

We’ve gone hands-on with two hours of the game, and you can read everything that happened to us in that time. We also made a list of the game’s coolest little details, and a rundown of why the new Dialogue system occasionally turns Red Dead 2 into a comedy game.
