Gamer Saves Friend's Life From 5,000 Miles Away

A 21-year-old gamer in America saved a friend's life from more than 5,000 miles away earlier this month, according to a report from the BBC. 17-year-old North West England resident Aidan Jackson was playing video games online with his friend, 21-year-old Texas resident Dia Lathora, on January 2 when Jackson experienced a seizure. "I just put my headset back on and I heard what I could only describe as a seizure, so obviously I started to get worried and immediately started asking what was going on and if he was okay," Lathora said to Liverpool Echo. "When he didn’t respond I instantly started to look up the emergency number for the EU. When that didn’t work I just had to hope the non-emergency would work, it had an option for talking to a real person, and I can’t tell you how quickly I clicked that button." Police arrived to Jackson's surprised parents at 9:40 p.m., about 40 minutes after Jackson's seizure reportedly started. Jackson's parents told police they hadn't called anyone, but when police explained the call had come from America, Jackson's mother went upstairs to check on her son, finding him "extremely disorientated." Aidan Jackson had previously experienced a seizure in May 2019, according to the BBC. He is currently awaiting a new appointment at a local hospital to address the issue. Jackson's parents expressed gratitude for Lathora's quick action. "We are extremely thankful for what Dia did and shocked that we could be downstairs and not know anything was happening," Ms Jackson told the BBC. "Dia had our address but didn't have any contact numbers, so it was amazing she managed to get help from so far away. I've spoken to her and expressed our thanks - she's just glad she could help. Aidan is a lot better and hopefully everything is OK when he has his appointment at the hospital but he's doing well."
