PlayStation Plus Free Games for November 2018 Announced

Sony has revealed the free games PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive in November 2018, with Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition and Yakuza Kiwami leading the charge as the free PlayStation 4 games for the month..

Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is a remastered version of the over-the-top first-person shooter from People Can Fly and Epic Games, with 4K support on PS4 Pro. All previous pieces of DLC are included in the Full Clip Edition, as well. In our Bulletstorm: Full Clip review, we appreciated the visual boost but found the additional content to be underwhelming.

Yakuza Kiwami, meanwhile, is a remake of the original Yakuza, built from the ground-up using a more recent engine. IGN's Yakuza Kiwami review saw it as a great way to experience the first story in the series, though it couldn't match the most recent mainline Yakuza games. Sega has given fans no shortage of choice as of late, with Yakuza 6, Yakuza 0, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 all coming to the West within the last few years.

Undertale Creator Announces and Releases Mysterious New Project

Following a tease yesterday, Undertale creator Toby Fox has unveiled Delta Rune, a free follow-up to 2015's Undertale.

As various Undertale fans have pointed out online, Delta Rune is an anagram for Undertale and refers to the symbol on Undertale NPC Toriel's tunic.

Delta Rune's website contains several warnings in English and Japanese about things like overriding security protocols and refraining from discussing "the program" for 24 hours in the interest of public safety.

The site says these warnings are the final ones players will receive before encouraging them to take things into their hands and allowing them to download Delta Rune for PC or Mac.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Players Reporting HDR Issues

It appears that the High Dynamic Range (HDR) implementation in Red Dead Redemption 2 may not be true HDR.

According to Eurogamer, the video output of all versions of the game is derived from a Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) image, and therefore is not rendered in high dynamic range. Generally speaking, an SDR image doesn’t offer nearly as much contrast, color range or luminance as an HDR image, and Eurogamer claims that all of the limitations present in SDR are simply packaged in what the game is presenting as HDR.

Ultimately, Eurogamer says using HDR at recommended settings produces an image similar to what you get with HDR turned off, or it can even make the game look incredibly dim or overly bright if settings are tweaked in either direction.

How the Director of the Metal Gear Movie Would Make a Zelda Movie

Note: This article was originally published on July 21, 2018 during San Diego Comic-Con, but in light of recent news that Castlevania producer Adi Shankar may be making a Legend of Zelda TV series, we've repromoted it to highlight another filmmaker's take on the idea.

Speaking on IGN’s Comic-Con live show about his upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie, we asked director Jordan Vogt-Roberts for his take on how he would make a Zelda movie if he had the opportunity.

“The thing about Zelda is Zelda is not Lord of the Rings, right? You cannot forget how quirky and bizarre Zelda is,” Vogt-Roberts said. “I think you need to find a way to actually fuse the traditional Zelda and the very new Zelda,”

Breach Blends All Your Favorite Game Genres with Mythology

Breach is a potent mixture of the last decade of game design. Like something engineered in an off-the-grid laboratory, its a multi-headed creation spliced together with DNA from hack-and-slash action games, hero shooters, MOBAs, and MMOs. It’s currently growing and coming into its own, boiling down that blend into a jump-in-and-play experience of quick 15-minute solo, cooperative, or competitive matches.

After getting hands-on with a healthy section of the technical alpha, what surprises me most about Breach is how well that insane-sounding concoction works. You pick a class – complete with its own basic attacks, skill shots, and abilities – and fight through a series of maps that are broken into six sectors. Each sector has an objective, so you and up to three other players fight to complete the objective in the allotted time while the enemy team of monsters, minions, mythological nightmares, and in some modes player-controlled demons tries to delay or stop you.

PS4 Surpasses 85 Million Units Sold

Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro have, combined, sold 86.1 million units as of the end of the company's last fiscal quarter.

In Sony's earnings report for Q2 of fiscal year 2018 (which ended on Sept. 30), the company reported 3.9 million PS4 units sold, which, tacked onto the 82.2 million total units reported in Sony's last fiscal report, brings the PS4 up to 86.1 million lifetime sales. Diablo 3 for Nintendo Switch Review

Not every six-year-old game can feel fresh and modern on a new platform, especially after you take off the 'Ohmigosh it’s on Switch so I can take it anywhere!' goggles. This is my third trip through Diablo 3 since its original release on PC in 2012 and expansion pack-fueled debut on Xbox One in 2014, and I have to say: it still plays wonderfully. That’s not a huge surprise. What is an unexpected delight is how good Diablo 3 looks on Nintendo’s portable console.

The Diablo 3 Eternal Collection doesn’t really offer anything new apart from a Ganondorf armor set, but it does offer everything: the Reaper of Souls expansion that makes you forget about the weak fourth Act, a seventh playable character in the form of the sadistic Necromancer, and every single update and tweak that’s helped Diablo 3 realize its full, enormous potential. It is Diablo 3 in its final form, and it’s simply a blast. Often literally, thanks to the explosive deaths that monsters suffer at your mighty hands. And it looks better than I expected it to, with image quality that suits the Switch’s built-in 720p screen perfectly. When you’re on a 65-inch 4K TV (running in Diablo’s maximum 960p resolution), only the character detail suffers a bit. The environments still look great!

Red Dead Redemption 2 Sells Through $725 Million In Its First Weekend

Nintendo President Wants More DLC For Existing 'Big Titles'

For those  wishing for more Super Mario Odyssey kingdoms, or Zelda story content, there might be a glimmer of hope, as Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has said he wants to see more DLC for existing major titles on Nintendo consoles.

At Nintendo's latest earnings meeting (as reported by Bloomberg's Yuji Nakamura), Furukawa said:

"We need continuous growth. We must keep releasing new software. That includes DLCs and other contents for big titles that are already out."

Many had wondered if the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey would see further updates. Despite announcing and releasing two paid content packs for Zelda, Nintendo has never formally said that it had finished working on the game. The same goes for Super Mario Odyssey, which has had a drip-feed of free content (including the Luigi's Balloon World update), but no paid expansions.

THQ Nordic Bought My Teenage Years – So What Are They Going to Do With Them?

In 2002, I was 13, and I spent as much of my time as possible playing TimeSplitters 2. Six years later, I spent a sizeable portion of my 19th year in the extremely purple company of Saints Row 2.

Between those two fairly formative experiences, I invented my own game modes with my brother in Red Faction 2. I had my mind blown by blowing up minds in Second Sight. Adult pangs of nostalgia already setting in, I rented Stuntman: Ignition to recall its PS2 predecessor. Friends introduced me to Destroy All Humans, and Painkiller. I’m also fairly sure I played doomed racing sim Juiced but, looking at it now, god knows why I would have chosen to.

Aside from the fact that I played them at some point, there’s little to connect these games. That list represents different genres, developers, publishers, levels of quality. Some games I can remember as well as the alphabet, others I’d forgotten about until looking them up for this piece. Now, 16 years after I lost myself to TimeSplitters 2, they’re all connected – because THQ Nordic bought them.

Tetris Effect Hands-On: It’s Like a Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dog

Tetris Effect is the video game equivalent of a bacon-wrapped hot dog. It is two great things joining forces to create something even better. Fallout 76 on Switch 'Wasn't Doable', Says Bethesda

Bethesda has explained that Fallout 76 couldn't come to Nintendo Switch because, after consideration, "it just wasn't doable".

"The Switch is something I can say with certainty that... it's a part of every conversation with every dev we have now about what we're doing going forward, because we consider it to be a viable platform. If the game will work on it, we want it to be on every platform possible. Fallout 76 is not because it just wasn't doable."

No detail was given as to exactly what wasn't doable about a Switch version, but the always-online nature of the game and absolutely gigantic world probably had something to do with it.

25. Blossom Tales

Blossom Tales feels right at home on the Nintendo Switch. The game has no shame in how much it actually borrows from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and that’s in no way bad thing. It may be a short game, but the moment to moment gameplay brings a ton of nostalgia and satisfies the craving to play something so familiar yet adds new challenges along the way.

Revealed through a Focus Home Interactive earnings report, it looks like the success of Vampyr on its current platforms has given the publisher reason to bring Dontnod’s title to Nintendo’s handheld/console hybrid.

"In Q3, the Group will continue to maximise the potential of the Vampyr license,” the report notes. "After the game's impressive success on PC, Xbox One and PS4, it will be Nintendo Switch's turn to welcome the DontNod title to reach an even wider audience.” The report doesn’t clarify if Q3 is in regards to 2018 or 2019, though a fiscal third quarter typically ends in September, so 2019 is a likely bet.

MediEvil PS4 Is a Remake, Not a Remaster

Sony Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden has described the PS4 version of MediEvil as a remake, not a remaster - despite the game being originally advertised using the latter term.

Appearing on PlayStation Blogcast, Layden explained the approach for this new version of the fondly-remembered PS1 game:

“I think there have been some words that might sound alike but mean different things – like remake and remaster. This is a remake. We’ve taken the original game design and we’ve taken a lot of the key art, some of the other attributes of the game design and ethos, if you will. And we’re working with a developer called Other Ocean Interactive, and they are remaking MediEvil in that design – the original MediEvil from PS1. The one that I worked on when I was in Tokyo."

It’ll be a free-to-play action-RPG for PC and “targeting all platforms.” And according to Dyack, it will blend the best of what he’s done before.

“We are combining elements of many of my past games into Deadhaus Sonata,” Dyack told IGN. “Deadhaus Sonata is a cooperative multiplayer, free-to-play RPG where you are an unstoppable force of the dead. There are Lovecraftian overtones from Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, the gothic role-playing elements of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, where you are undead, and finally, some the action RPG elements of Too Human.” Apocalypse described Deadhaus as “a combination of fast action, loot collection, and deep gothic lore

My Hero One's Justice Review

My Hero Academia is one of the best shonen anime currently airing, and it deserves a great video game that lives up to its reputation. While My Hero One’s Justice unfortunately doesn’t hit that high bar, it does a good job of adapting the action and spectacle of the anime into fighting game form. The gorgeous visuals and a flashy one-on-one combat system make it seem like a fan’s dream fighting game, but the shiny exterior hides a fairly simplistic foundation, and once the spectacle of the action wears off, My Hero One’s Justice feels less like All Might, and more like “just alright.”

My Hero One’s Justice is a 3D arena fighter with a combat system that could be best explained as an appropriately quirky version of Rock, Paper, Scissors. You have three main options when it comes to attacking up close: normal attacks, counter attacks, and unblockable attacks. Normals are fast enough to interrupt and beat unblockables, counters absorb normal attacks before delivering their own powerful strike, and unblockables crush through counters. There are some extra nuances of course, like just guards, dashes, and dash cancels, but that’s the general overview of combat.

Red Dead Redemption 2: When IGN's Review Is Coming

In just two days, we'll finally be able to leap back into Rockstar's sprawling vision of the wild west 8 years after our adventures in Red Dead Redemption took us across the sand-swept deserts of a 1900s US and Mexico. And it can't come a moment sooner. But what does come a moment sooner is our review of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Our own Luke Reilly over in Australia has spent at least 60 hours with the game in preparation for our review, which will hit October 25, 4am PST. Though it'll be an early morning for us, we're excited to finally share our thoughts.

We were able to bring you our experiences of the first four hours with the game, where we came away impressed with the extensive level of detail in Rockstar's world. We hunted deer and stumbled on a broken-hearted boy that we decided to antagonize for some reason, but ultimately we could tell that we just scratched at the surface of the potential of this world in allowing us to interact with it in imaginative ways that in turn responded to us accordingly. We were at times devious and at times helpful. We pursued the main storyline, and yet took time to pursue one of the world's many distractions, too. And though the world in Red Dead Redemption 2 felt like a living organism in its own right, it also felt lonely and cruel at times. And even surprised us in many ways.

Dan Houser 'Thankful' Not to Be Releasing Grand Theft Auto 6 Right Now

"It’s really unclear what we would even do with

, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did. Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd.

Top 25 Xbox One Games

If you buy something through this post, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of Use.

If you're just now getting yourself an Xbox One, we have good news: you've got a lot of fantastic games to play. These are the best 25 games you can play on your Xbox One, as ranked by a humble crew of IGN's biggest and most knowledgeable Xbox One fans. Review scores mattered, but we also factored in things like ways each game took advantage of the Xbox One, design risks taken that you should see, curiosities, etc. Enjoy!

Minecraft is excellent for many reasons, but the most important is that it both encourages and encourages a sense of wonder. That mountain in the distance? You can burrow into it. You can make your home inside it and cover it with lava so it’s spooky and cool. And then you can dig deep into the ground to find treasure and fight monsters. Minecraft can be played as a do-what-you-want sandbox, but there are enough game systems and rules to structure your time into a “campaign,” if that’s what you’re after. Few games have set the world on fire like Minecraft, and it’s likely few ever will in the same way again.

Return of the Obra Dinn Review

Almost nothing moves on the Obra Dinn, but it’s still one of the most lively video game boats I’ve been on. Its crew may be long gone, but that doesn’t stop them from having interesting voices and complex stories to tell -- most of which involve horrific deaths. I’ve never played a game quite like Return of the Obra Dinn, but now that I have, all I want is more.

This investigative story skillfully straddles the line between an adventure game, a puzzle game, and a gruesome, supernatural, Moby Dick-themed version of Guess Who. At its core, it's a detective game, but you’re not out on a mission for justice or vengeance. You’re just an insurance evaluator whose job it is to assess the long-since-done damage of a merchant ship called the Obra Dinn, which has mysteriously reappeared after four years lost at sea.
