Google Will Not Remove Games From Your Stadia Library

Games purchased for Google Stadia will not be removed from your library, even if the game is removed from sale.

Talking to IGN and UK press at Google’s offices in London, Google vice president and Stadia boss Phil Harrison addressed concerns that games could be removed from the service and prevent users who have paid for the game without the ability to play.

When posed with the theoretical idea of a publisher pulling support for Stadia after a user having brought one of the company’s games, Harrison responded “Yes, you will still be able to access the game.”

“Now there may be, as we've seen in the past, times where the developer or publisher no longer has rights to sell to new players,” he elaborated. “And that means that the game will not be available to new players, but it will continue to be available to existing players.”

Yakuza 6 Actor Suspended From Agency Due To Organised Crime Link

Actor and comedian Hiroyuki Miyasako, who plays a supporting character in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, has been suspended by his talent agency due to an alleged link to organised crime.

As reported by The Japan Times (via VG247) Miyasako, who plays Tsuyoshi Nagumo in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, reportedly attended a party five years ago, along with other comedians, that was hosted by an organised crime group. The comedians provided entertainment for party guests and were paid for their efforts. It is that payment that has caused Miyasako and 10 other actors to be suspended by the Yoshimoto Kogyo Co. agency.

Google Stadia Exclusives Aim To Be 'Fun to Watch’ As Well As Play

Google’s vice president for Stadia, Phil Harrison, has elaborated on the kind of exclusive games players will see running on the upcoming video games streaming platform.

Talking to IGN and other journalists at a roundtable event at Google’s UK offices, Harrison said “An innovation that we want to bring to bare is games that are as fun to watch as they are to play,”

“That may be even introduce a new way of experiencing games,” he elaborated. “Most of the games we play today are measured in button presses per second. Watching a YouTube video is button presses per minute. And maybe there's something in between, which is allowing the less engaged gamer to have just as much fun being part of a game. Behold Pokemon’s ‘Stained Glass’ Card Featuring the Legendary Bird Trinity

The Pokemon Trading Card Game is debuting the first ever three-in-one Pokemon card in stunning fashion.

Behold Moltres & Zapdos & Articuno GX, a triple Tag Team card with a special holofoil version made to look like a stained glass window (and keep clicking to see more new cards):

This card with the three Kanto Legendary birds can be found in the new Hidden Fates expansion set releasing on August 23.

In 2018, Tag Team Pokemon GX cards were introduced to the game that featured two Pokemon partnering up on one card. Though Tag Team Pokemon GX come at a steep price of three Prize cards, their speed and strength shook up the metagame with extremely powerful combinations that ended up taking top honors at several major tournaments (like in May when Reshiram & Charizard GX secured both first and second at the 480-player Santa Clara Pokemon Regional). Now things look like they’re going to be shaken up again with three famously powerful Pokemon joining together on one card for the first time.

The Past, Future, and Trash Talk of Gears of War Esports

Gears of War’s esports scene has evolved quite a bit over the franchise’s history. It started as a mainly community-led endeavor with occasional tournaments by companies like Major League Gaming. Since then, Gears developer The Coalition has made strides to give the scene a professional edge beginning with more in-game competitive features in Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and The Coalition’s development of the Gears Pro Circuit. However, with the scene's grown, the team behind Gears esports has been careful to make sure there’s still respect and a celebration of the scene’s grassroots origins.

IGN sat down with Rose Gunson, the executive producer for the Gears Eleague series and Gears Esports creative manager at The Coalition, and Rod Fergusson, The Coalition’s studio head, to talk about the history of Gears esports, its future, and what makes it special.

What Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Should Learn From Pokemon Go

Although Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is being developed by Pokemon Go developer Niantic, there are still multiple lessons it can stand to learn from Niantic's flagship catch 'em all game. Here they are, from three die-hard Pokemon Go players on the IGN staff.

Make Our Collection Useful

While Harry Potter: Wizards Unite shares a lot of the same mechanics as Pokemon Go in terms of its basic mechanics (catching Pokemon on the world map vs. catching Foundables, for example), the thing that differentiates Pokemon Go is that the Pokemon you're collecting can be used for things beyond simply adding to your hoard.

Depending on what Pokemon spawns, its IV ratings, and level, it could be utilized right away in other aspects of the game. In Wizards Unite, you're basically just scrapbooking and adding stickers to your notebook — which is cool the first few times, but feels worthless and grindy the more you come across the same Foundable. By contrast, in Pokemon Go, I could catch 10 Charmanders in a row, but every single one of those will be different in its level, moveset, usability, etc depending on what I need at a given moment. Maybe I will evolve that Charmander to a Charizard to use in a raid or PVP battle, or maybe I caught an ultra-rare shiny Pokemon that is just nice as a high-value collector's item.

Astral Chain Planned as First Part of a Trilogy, No Post-Launch Content Planned

Dr. Disrespect's Twitch Ban Has Been Lifted

The popular Twitch streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm has been reinstated after a two-week ban.

Beahm's channel, which currently has just under 3.5 Million followers on Twitch (several thousand of them being paid subscribers), was initially banned during E3 2019, when Beahm repeatedly entered convention center restrooms while broadcasting live to his Twitch channel.

In addition to this being against the law in California, it's also a violation of Twitch's community guidelines, which states "Sharing content that violates another's reasonable expectation of privacy" (like they're using the restroom) as a valid reason for banning a user. Beahm also had his E3 badge revoked by the ESA, according to a report from Kotaku.

Here Are The Roller Derby Tips You Need to Win Roller Champions

A few weeks ago at E3 2019, between a series of Tom Clancy related first-person shooters, Ubisoft revealed Roller Champions, an online multiplayer sports game loosely based on the real world sport of roller derby.

Roller derby is a fast-paced contact sport played on roller skates, mostly by women. It’s very welcoming to queer skaters, and it’s all about getting around the track fast, without too many people knocking you around along the way.

As an active roller derby player, I was ecstatic to see the sport I love finally used as the basis for a video game. Sure, it’s not a 1:1 recreation, but it gets the most important things right. Thanks to its core similarities, there’s a lot you can learn about being better at Roller Champions by studying how pros play roller derby.

A Narrative-Driven PUBG Game Will Require a Complete Gameplay Overhaul

There's a new PUBG game coming, and it's not a battle royale. It's not a sequel, either. In fact, it's "an original narrative experience within the PUBG universe," according to the PUBG Corporation. Glen Schofield, formerly of Sledgehammer and Visceral Games, is leading up PUBG Corporation's new studio 'Striking Distance' to build this new PUBG game.

The gameplay is going to require a complete, ground-up rebuild, though.

If you've ever played one of the custom PUBG modes, like death match, you know the game doesn't lend itself well to being played outside its battle royale comfort zone. With all the hundreds of hours I have into PUBG, I still don't like how the guns feel.

Kratos Was Almost Cut From God of War

God of War director Cory Barlog has revealed that Sony Santa Monica had discussed cutting Kratos from the game during the early planning stages for the 2018 PS4 game.

Talking at Gamelab in Barcelona, Eurogamer reports that Barlog said “Early in discussion, people were saying we had to get rid of Kratos. It was like, 'he's annoying, he's done'."

Barlog went on to describe that members development team felt that Kratos’ anti-hero design had been played through in the original trilogy, and that the new game needed a fresh protagonist. The argument was that the mythology was important to the series, not the character of Kratos.

Super Mario Maker 2 Review

It’s hard to decide where to begin when talking about all the things I love about Super Mario Maker 2. It does nearly everything better than its already excellent predecessor, introducing some incredible new ideas, level styles, building items, and so much more - all while maintaining the charm of Mario games we know and love.

Despite enabling you to depart so radically from the core Mario style, even the most odd-ball levels still feel like they could belong to some lost Super Mario game. But Super Mario Maker 2 is so much more than just a way to live out your Miyamoto-esque design fantasies: there's also a robust online mode to play against or with other people, a story mode that could almost stand as a full Mario game in its own right, and an abundance of content available to you before you even start making your first level. Like I said, I don't even know where to begin.

Cyberpunk 2077 Does Not Have a Morality System

Upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will not feature a morality system that categorises your character as good or bad depending on their actions.

Talking to GamingBolt, quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz said “We don’t have a moral system per se. However, to complete

non-lethally you have to be very good at stealth. Invest in points that allow you to stealth better, use weapons that will allow you to incapacitate the enemy instead of killing them, to make the moral choices that will allow you to avoid killing people throughout the game.”

With this in mind, it appears that Cyberpunk 2077 will allow you to make moral decisions, but those choices will not be categorised and counted in the same way as, for example, Mass Effect’s Paragon and Renegade system.

“I respect every developer who strives to deliver their work as an extension or reflection of their artistic vision,” Condrey said. “That said, MW seems like a tough challenge for any studio, especially if they are being pushed by publishing to be more controversial and “darker” for the sake of headlines.”

Here’s Why Pokemon Fusion Is Making a Comeback

Pokemon Fusion, an online program that randomly generates the fusion of two separate Pokemon sprites into a single (often horrifying) sprite, has suddenly come back into the spotlight.

With a resurgence in Pokemon Fusion’s popularity, we’ve decided to dig into why it has regained attention, how the program works, and share some wonderful examples of fan PokeFusions and subsequent fan art.

The Return of Pokemon Fusion

Fusing two Pokemon together to create fan art has been around nearly as long as Pokemon Red and Blue, but web developer Alex Onsager launched the widely used Pokemon Fusion website in 2010. The site spiked in popularity in 2013, generating a slew of memes, including the classic “Be strong for mother” comic created by ohcorny on Tumblr, which featured fan art for their Weepinduo, a fusio of Weepinbell and Doduo.

Via Reddit, user u/CaptainGJB direct messaged Sasko on Twitter and asked him if it would be possible to "have a character with every stat/ability maxed out, or will it be closer to

in that there's limited upgrade slots?"

Sasko answered that, while they are still working on character progression and it may change in time, "most likely it won't be possible to max out everything on 1 playthrough, as it would have little sens to have a game that is about replayability and choices, while in the same time allow the players to max out all the stats on the first run :)"

Marvel's Avengers Will Feature Costume Changes and Personality Shifts

The story in Marvel’s Avengers will incorporate a five-year time jump, and following that jump the Avengers will experience costume changes and personality shifts.

Revealed in a VentureBeat interview with lead combat designer Vincent Napoli and director Shaun Escayg, it’s revealed that following the catastrophic event known as A-Day that supposedly results in the death of Captain America and the disbanding of The Avengers, the remaining heroes go through these costume and personality shifts.

Napoli said, "Picking up five years later, where they’re at is very different from where they are in the beginning, which also gives us a very different — it’s not just costumes and aesthetics, but different personalities, different gameplay space."

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Earns $1.7m Less Than Pokemon Go

Niantic's Harry Potter: Wizards Unite racked up 400,000 downloads and $300,000 in revenue within its first day of launch according to Sensor Tower's data.

Although Wizards Unite climbed to the No. 1 spot for free games in the App store for US users within 15 hours, Pokemon Go had been in the same position in 2016 and was downloaded 7.5 million times within 24 hours of its launch – while pulling in nearly $2 million.

Pokemon Go was ranked in first place for player spending after 24 hours, where as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was in the No. 48 spot in the UK and No. 102 in the US.

See Gears 5’s New Weapons and Escape Character Abilities

Gears 5 Escape has been our first chance to get a look at some of the game’s newest weapons, character abilities, and enemies. While there will surely be more surprises in store for us in the campaign, versus, and Horde, here are the new features we’ve found so far.

Character Abilities

The characters you use in Escape and Horde are called Hero Characters. Each of these characters is equipped with a passive and ultimate ability. We only know about the following three characters who have a unique connection to Escape, but The Coalition said more will be added to Escape. We have yet to see who will be playable in Horde.

Samurai Shodown Review

While it may not be a household name like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, Samurai Shodown is a storied fighting game series with a legacy to uphold. The 2019 version, which is simply titled Samurai Shodown, does a great job of bringing its unique brand of methodical footsies-based 2D duels into this modern era of fighters.

Samurai Shodown finds itself on the fighting game spectrum somewhere in between Street Fighter and Divekick, meaning it’s not about combos, juggles, block strings, frame traps, or other high-level fighting game techniques. Instead, it strips all of that away, leaving a game that is laser focused on careful positioning, reading your opponent, and brutally punishing their mistakes.

The Future of Xbox May Hinge on E3 2020

Ever since the Xbox One’s nightmarish launch in 2013, Microsoft and the Phil Spencer-led Xbox leadership team have done a remarkable job of rebuilding the entire Xbox brand on the fly. There could never be an overnight fix; restoring Team Xbox to its Xbox 360 glory days would require a complete systemic overhaul in order to win spurned fans back over.

And so they began. The Xbox One S, the Xbox One X, Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, original Xbox backwards compatibility, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass for PC, Xbox All Access, eight new first-party studios, Project xCloud, and on and on and on. Every E3 program has come with a clear focus and a gamer-first message. Kinect is dead, the “all-in-one entertainment device” is dead. Xbox is a gamer-focused brand, and this year, it was playing for tomorrow.

6 Classic Memes That Started At E3

How do you do, fellow kids? Since the earliest days of the internet, E3 has been a time when gamers around the world flock to their favorite message boards, chat rooms, comment sections and social networks to fire off their hottest takes on all the massive video game announcements.

While some of the biggest new video games will become old and forgotten over time, some of the memes to come out E3 have proven to have a lasting legacy.

Giant Enemy Crab

At Sony’s 2006 E3 conference, they showed off Genji: Days of the Blade, a game that promised historically accurate battles that actually took place in ancient Japan, yet also had players fighting... a giant enemy crab? This anachronistic arthropod went on to inspire numerous memes, and even landed itself a cameo in Scribblenauts.

Moons of Madness Strands You on Mars with Cthulhu Monsters

What's worse than being stranded on Mars in a malfunctioning research station? Being stranded on Mars in a malfunctioning research station... with monsters. This is the simple yet very effective premise of Moons of Madness, the sci-fi/Lovecraft-themed horror adventure from Rock Pocket games.

My recent demo at E3 2019 took me through what is essentially the first hour of Moons of Madness's story, and did an excellent job proving two things:

  1. The team has done a great job blending these two distinct horror genres
  2. I am still a huge wimp when it comes to horror games.

You'll play as Shane Newhart, Chief Engineer for the Invictus Mission - a topper-than-top secret mission to explore the potential for humanity to colonize Mars. The mission, funded by the corporate conglomerate Orochi Group (if that sounds familiar, it's because Moons of Madness is set in the universe of Funcom's The Secret World), is entirely privatized and wholly off the books - it seems that not even NASA's top brass knows you're up there. Learning this, by reading through various notes, emails and NDAs that Shane has signed, adds another welcome layer of anxiety-inducing world-building - if this goes south, no one is coming to help you.

Nintendo Says It Will Not Release a Game Before It's Ready

As the development community continues to question practices that contribute to a normalized culture of crunch, many studios and individual developers have been reflecting on the conversation, trying to find ways to contribute to the solution. And Nintendo is no different.

Crunch isn’t necessarily an easy problem to identify or solve, and there are nuances to that problem based on the variations in studios’ personal practices or team structures. Ultimately, a lot of what contributes to crunch is the inherent nature of game development: It’s hard to predict what will work, what will go wrong, and what will end up being the better direction as identified by creative leads (and, let’s be real: Likely publisher needs, too).

Crystal Dynamics at Redwood Shores, we opened a new studio in Bellevue called Crystal North West. We have our partners in the Netherlands, Nixxes, which has a big team of people who we've worked with for 20 years. Elden Ring Is an Evolution of Dark Souls Says Creator

Elden Ring’s announcement trailer shown off at E3 2019’s Xbox Briefing had honestly left me clueless. The most noteworthy aspect was, of course, the fact that Elden Ring’s world is being created as a collaboration between Miyazaki and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. But besides that, all I understood was that the “Elden Ring” had been shattered… by somebody or something?

It almost felt like the narrator’s words “I doubt you could even imagine it” were addressed to me personally.

Luckily, Miyazaki was not the secretive soul master I had imagined him to be. He was open and friendly and seemed eager to tell me all about his new game and the meaning behind the Elden Ring.

Anthem Is 'Not Working Very Well' Admits EA CEO

EA CEO Andrew Wilson has admitted that Anthem’s ambition to bring together story-focused gaming and looter-shooter mechanics is “not working very well”, but he vows that the publisher will stand by both the game and developer BioWare in hope of improving Anthem’s fortunes.

Talking to GameDaily.biz, Wilson said of the two player demographics Anthem attempted to bring together: “One was traditional BioWare story driven content, and the other was this action-adventure type content. About the 30 or 40 hour mark they really had to come together and start working in on the elder game. At that point everyone kind of went, ‘Oh, hang a minute.’ Now the calculation is off.”

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Is Suffering Online Issues

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, the remake of Naughty Dog’s classic kart racer, has released to critical acclaim, but is suffering some unfortunate online issues.

Many players have taken to social media channels to discuss the problems they are encountering in CTR’s online multiplayer. As demonstrated by a video linked to us on Twitter, players are seemingly disconnecting and disappearing off the track.

Destroy All Humans! Remake: New Tweaks to an Old Formula

The only assets Black Forest Games has taken from 2005’s Destroy All Humans! are the original voice lines and music. Every other aspect has been rebuilt to bring alien anti-hero Cryptosporidium 137 aka Crypto back to our screens. The developers describe this new outing as “not a remake, but a remake of what people remember it being”. In my short time seeing the game I knew exactly what they meant, for better or worse.

At its core, Destroy All Humans! is still about exactly that: destroying all humans. Their towns, army bases and general peace of mind. It’s a third-person shooter but also incorporates stealth elements, and vehicle combat when commanding Crypto’s Saucer. You’re encouraged to cause as much destruction as possible, raining death from above, then strolling through the ruins finding new and interesting ways to interfere with the survivors.

Square Enix has released 22 new screenshots and pieces of character art, showing previously unseen parts of Final Fantasy VII remake.

The screenshots include glimpses at the Shinra Building, Aerith gameplay (including what appears to be her Limit Break, Healing Wind), the Air Buster boss and more.

The Best New Monster Hunter: Iceborne Feature Isn't What You'd Think

I never had to be sold on Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. I'm a constant Monster Hunter player and have been nothing short of ecstatic to tackle any and all new content that's been introduced via frequent updates throughout the last year.

With that in mind, there wasn't one singular thing I especially wanted from the new massive expansion coming to Monster Hunter World this year - besides more monsters to hunt and make armor out of, of course - so color me surprised when I found myself getting overly excited about something I'd never have expected.

Your mantles can now be upgraded with decoration slots. Granted, the decorations on mantles are only active when the mantles are equipped, but still – decoration slots! Keep in mind, "best" is being used, obviously, very subjectively here, but I literally shouted with glee when I saw that. It was the first thing I shared with my Monster Hunter squad after my hands-on demo and interview and they, to my surprise, shared in my excited rambling.

Bee Simulator Is Like For Honor With Butt Swords

With a name like Bee Simulator, you might expect to see a tiny, airborne version of something like Goat Simulator - a wacky, physics-based comedy game that, while entertaining, does very little to actually simulate the day-to-day reality of Bovidae Capra. However, you would be very much mistaken.

Nintendo Won't Deny, Co-Op, Playing as Zelda in Breath of the Wild 2

Mortal Kombat 11: Shang Tsung DLC Review

The first of what will eventually be Mortal Kombat 11’s many DLC characters, Shang Tsung, kicks off Kombat Pack 1 on a cool looking but uneven note. Aesthetically, he’s everything a MK fan could ever want out the classic sorcerer. But on the gameplay side, out of the gate he feels a bit hamstrung with meter hungry and krushing blow-dependent damage, along with tournament variations that leave out some of his most exciting moves. That being said, his ability to morph into any opponent remains a wholly unique aspect of his character, and players who like to zone and have an extraordinarily vast knowledge of other fighters will find ways to make the soul-stealing sorcerer their own.

Sony Santa Monica Hiring for Roles With 'Knowledge of God of War'

If Sony Santa Monica's job listings are any indication, the developers behind IGN's 2018 Game of the Year-winner God of War may be staffing up for development on a God of War 2018 follow-up — or a game really similar to it.

Recently posted Santa Monica's job listings, for roles like Combat Designer, list under required knowledge and skills that candidates "must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to speak about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies."

While that's not outright confirmation by Santa Monica or Sony in general of a God of War sequel, it would seemingly mean a future project from the studio is going to incorporate those combat systems, mechanics, and enemies, or at the very least be influenced by the work done on 2018's God of War. (Of course, it could even just be Santa Monica wanting to hire new staff members who deeply understand the studio's past work to contribute what it does next.) Naturally, after DualShockers spotted the job listings, that has led plenty of fans to speculate that Santa Monica is working on a God of War sequel, especially as it's not the first hint that may be the case.

Phil Spencer: Xbox Focus Is on Software and Services, Not Console Sales

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer believes the future – and present – of measuring success in the video game business is by focusing on software and services, not hardware. In an interview with Kotaku at E3 2019, Spencer alluded to Google Stadia in asserting his belief that "the consoles are not where the profit in this side of the business is made."

"The business is selling software and services," he said. "The business is not how many consoles you sell. The consoles are not where the profit in this side of the business is made, which is where the whole: ‘Who’s selling more consoles’ at any one time as the kind of root good of who is doing well in the business is just not true. You have other companies entering gaming who don’t even have a console as part of their equation. It’s all about how many games are people playing. And how much people are spending playing those games and how often they play."

During Nintendo's E3 2019 Direct and Nintendo Treehouse Live, Nintendo divulged more information about Pokemon Sword and Shield, including the identity of a new gym leader, details on how Dynamax Raids work, and gave an extensive look at the free-roaming Wild Area.

All-in-all, there were 22 details we learned about Pokemon Sword and Shield this morning.

Pokemon Sword and Shield: Wild Area

1 - Weather in the Wild Area not only impacts battles, it also changes which wild Pokemon can appear.

2 - Thunderstorms increase the power of Electric- and Water-type Pokemon.

3 - Trainers can whistle while in the Wild area - this makes some Pokemon stop, some run towards the trainer and some run away.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Preview: A Beautiful New Direction

Initially I imagined LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was a compilation of sorts, featuring updated versions of previous LEGO Star Wars games while filling in the gaps of unrepresented films with new content. This simply is not the case. All nine main Star Wars movies are equally represented with brand new levels and objectives along with the freedom to play in the order you choose. As the E3 demo showed, a cool rotating episode select menu allows anyone to play whichever episode they want from the start. If I don't want to play Attack of the Clones, great. The option is mine!

BotW 2 Exists Because the Team Had 'Too Many Ideas' for DLC

The team behind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild opted to create a sequel rather than an entirely new Zelda game due to the amount of DLC ideas it had for the 2017 original.

Speaking with Kotaku, series producer Eiji Aonuma said DLC was a great way to "add more elements to the same world" as Breath of the Wild, "but when it comes down to technical things, DLC is pretty much data — you’re adding data to a preexisting title. And so when we wanted to add bigger changes, DLC is not enough, and that’s why we thought maybe a sequel would be a good fit."

When asked if the sequel was initially planned as an expansion, Aonuma said the team was only brainstorming DLC ideas at first, until it became clear they had greater ambitions. "This is too many ideas, let’s just make one new game and start from scratch," he said.

Nintendo Stole E3 2019, According to Twitter

According to Twitter’s own metrics, Nintendo, Keanu Reeves and Final Fantasy VII Remake ranked among the most talked about subjects of E3 2019.

Revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, Twitter claims the biggest moment of the event for their platform was the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct presentation broadcasted Tuesday morning. Nintendo’s big show was followed in popularity by Keanu Reeves' surprise appearance at Microsoft’s press conference on Sunday. The third most tweeted about moment was Square Enix’s conference on Monday, where it debuted new gameplay from Final Fantasy VII Remake and unveiled Marvel’s Avengers.

Gears 5’s New Map Builder Lets You Make Brutal Maps...on One Condition

The Coalition revealed a new mode for Gears 5 at E3 2019 called Escape. In it, a team of up to three must outrun a cloud of venom while slaying the Swarm that patrols ahead with their limited resources. The thing is, Escape isn’t limited to just one map. The Coalition will be uploading a new Escape hive roughly every week. This mode’s maps are built with a tile system, which will be available to all players through the new 2D Map Builder feature. We sat down with The Coalition to make our first map and explore the lengths at which we could customize a hive for Escape.

My goal was to make something terribly hard but not completely impossible. You have to complete one run on your custom map in order to publish it, which is fair. I began by placing a starting point and picked a few corridors and rooms of varying sizes to lay the framework. For the sake of time, I chose to stick with only one chapter, though The Coalition said you can build your hive to have many chapters, which are sections of the hive that are broken up by Safe Rooms. These Left 4 Dead-style Safe Rooms allow players to get a little bit of a break from the chaos; pause, get a snack, or do whatever you need. Each chapter also has a limit to how many pieces you can add based on a point value assigned to each piece. Once you meet that budget, you need to move onto the next chapter. I didn’t feel like the budget was limiting.

Maneater Is a Deranged, Open World Shark-PG

Maneater is an open-world action game presented as a reality show about a vengeful shark, narrated by SNL and Archer’s Chris Parnell. Somehow, that’s not the strangest part of it. This Tripwire-developed passion project has you chomping your way through several underwater ecosystems, growing and evolving as you go, allowing you to enter harsher waters, all while terrorising the surface world on the hunt for your meaty end-goal. It’s basically F**ko the Dolphin.

In a hands-off demo at E3, my first impression is that Maneater looks far nicer than expected, an oversaturated city casting harsh neon light over a polluted bay as a single fin pokes out of the swell. My second impression is that the shark that fin’s attached to has just grabbed a nearby swimmer in its teeth, breached 20 feet out of the water and whipped the remaining half of the still-screaming man into a concrete bridge strut with a bloody pop. I’m giggling despite myself.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall - Hands-On With Cyborg Trash Zombies

Whenever a strategy game gives me the option to choose between several distinct factions, I'm always faced with a petrifying dilemma. Do I choose the stalwart mech-using humans known as the Vanguard that are always reliable and familiar? Do I change things up and go exotic with a race of bug-like aliens called the Kir’ko that are eager to defend their newfound freedom after centuries of enslavement? Wait a minute — is that a faction comprised of undying dumpster divers who meld whatever tech they can find or kill for and graft it onto their bodies? Yes please!

That's right, in my hands-on demo with Age of Wonders: Planetfall, I got some time in with the faction known as The Assembly. True to their name, they love manufacturing: slapping together pieces of people and machinery, engineering virulent diseases — you name it. Somehow, they feel right at home next to the dinosaur-riding Amazons and insectoid aliens all vying for a slice of planetary conquest. So far, each faction I've seen is more than just eye candy, as they all have their compelling backstories in a world reeling from the collapse of an imperious galactic civilization. Even the tech trees and upgrades tell a story of your faction's desire to stand apart and evolve, and you'll have a major role in choosing how they grow each time you play.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Still Has the Cross-Dressing Sequence

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will still feature the original game’s infamous cross-dressing sequence, according to an interview with Square Enix conducted by Famitsu.

The news comes as a slight surprise as the same Famitsu feature (via Eurogamer) reveals that Square Enix has an ethics department, which instructed the developers of Final Fantasy 7 Remake to “restrict” Tifa’s chest for her new look, to ensure she didn’t look “unnatural” during action sequences. This led to her new design featuring a more athletic build and fitted clothing, rather than the more pin-up girl look she sported in the original game.

Super Mario Maker 2 Co-op Building Exists, But Who Is It For?

Super Mario Maker 2 brings some incredible, fun, and entirely new elements to the Super Mario Maker formula. Almost every single addition, big or small, feels fantastic and works phenomenally well, with one exception: I cannot figure out who co-op level building is for.

If you've played any of the New Super Mario games, you know co-op play can be an incredible experience. It can also tear friendships apart. In other words, it's wonderful. Co-op level gameplay is part of Super Mario Maker 2, so you can make your own levels and then scream at your friends and family to "pop my bubble!" after you miss a jump or take a direct hit from a fireball.
